Engineering Manager

Role Summary

Technical and team leadership

Engineering managers (EMs) at HASH work alongside product design engineers to deliver and improve the platform.

EMs maintain our shipping-driven culture, keeping teams focused and code quality high, while overseeing our technology strategy.

Responsibilities

Driving engineering efforts

EMs balance technical, managerial, and leadership responsibilities to ship ahead of time and advance the business.

Managers are responsible for their team's culture, ensuring a high-expectations, high-output, high-sustainability environment. EMs are expected to be subject-matter experts, continuing to contribute code, as well as participating in code reviews and assuring the technical quality of the whole team's output.

Ultimately, the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects are the EM's responsibility. Ensuring aggressive business deadlines are met and clear communication with leadership are key.

EMs are consequently responsible for the resourcing of their teams, including all hiring, onboarding, performance and resource management. As inefficiencies and opportunities are discovered, feeding back on technical process improvement is expected.

Requirements

Human and tech leadership

A formal computer science background is expected, and extensive experience in software engineering is required, including prior significant leadership or management experience, and a track record of successfully managing software development projects from inception to deployment, demonstrating strong project management skills.

Deep technical subject matter expertise is also required, as well as a second-nature understanding of software engineering best practices and principles.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills are a must, with EMs needing to work across the whole company, alongside both PDEs and company leaderhsip.

A focus on driving results, and a genuine desire to work at a shipping-focused startup are critical, with a need for EMs to inspire those on their team similarly.

What You’ll Achieve

Ultimate technical responsibility

You'll be the lead technologist in your area or project.
You'll ensure that the technical side of projects gets delivered on time, directly helping HASH grow.
You'll mentor and inspire other engineers to do their best work, and achieve far more than might be seen as "reasonable" at most places.

Our culture

Intense by design

We're focused on building something big, in the service of something important (our mission). To that end, we're unapologetically excited. Actions speak louder than words, and we measure performance by output. You can work from wherever, but we know that teams are more productive together, in-person. We prioritze speed, and measure product delivery timelines in hours and days, not months and years. We value high-energy, high-expectations people who do what they say and say what they mean.

Our benefits

Life at HASH is good

We provide leading equity-weighted total comp, and depending on your location also offer:

    Employee pension and employer contributions
    Gym membership/workout class passes
    Cycle-to-work scheme
Tax-advantaged options (e.g. EMI in the UK)
Fully-funded HSA & comprehensive health insurance
